Watch out, Matches Ears Can Ruin Ear Drum

Be careful using lighter ears, because if too deeply can damage the eardrum. The impact of the damage varies, ranging from a mild form of ringing in the ears to the most severe in the vicinity of the facial nerve paralysis.

According to a recent study, more than 50 percent of patients who come to a specialist Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) often use a cotton bud to ferret out dirt on the ear. Although the ends of cotton, the tool is still at risk of damaging the eardrum.

"If the patient has hearing loss or something was wrong with his movement, there is the possibility of his ears were damaged," said Dr. Ilaaf Darrat, ENT specialist from Henry Ford Hospital was quoted as saying HealthDay, Friday (6/5/2011).

Hearing loss is commonly experienced by users of a cotton bud (plastic shaft with cotton-coated tip) is tinnitus or ringing in the ears. While the face is difficult to move are the symptoms of nerve damage that also triggered the ear drum damage.

Fortunately, recent research conducted by Dr. Ilaaf showed that 97 percent damage to the eardrum can heal itself in time average of 2 months. Surgery is only needed if the impact on surrounding facial nerve paralysis.

Research presented at the Combined Spring Meeting in Chicago Otolaryngological involved 1540 patients who suffered damage to the eardrum between the years 2001-2010.

But as much as possible, the risk of damage to the ear drum should be reduced by reducing the use of a cotton bud or similar. As an alternative, here are some ways that can be used to clean the ears of dirt.

1. Mix hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) with warm water, drops gradually into the ear cavity maximum 2 times per month.

2. Mix the cider vinegar (vinegar) with water in the same comparison, and enter 5 drops into the ear and not more than once a week.

3. Visit the ENT doctor to perform waxing or cleaning the ear with a special wax.
